I am currently slathered in it.

Should I avoid my bird like the plague, or is it ok for him to cuddle and make me feel better?

Vicks VapoRub isn't actually that great for people, so I would avoid the bird.

When I was little, I used to put it on every night. I love the smell.

But yeah, I agree, anything strong smelling, keep away from the birds.

Can't find anything definitive about it, so the safest thing is probably to limit exposure. Or give your vet a call and ask.
