And the documentary I saw indicated that the US farmers export because other countries (I think especially Australia) pay more than what the US would pay; and it's cheaper to import produce from other countries than to pay for domestically grown produce. Without research and learning about farming and import/export practices I guess we don't really know why.

Do you remember what that documentary was called? I'd love to see it. Food production and the things we eat fascinate me.

Sorry, I really don't remember what it was called. It was something on our PBS channel last year and it had live discussions with some people discussing the need for reforms on how the US grows foods, farmers markets, import/export, blah, blah, blah. It was VERY interesting.

I'll try googling later and let you know if I find something on it.

I watched Food Inc. and it was good.

Have you ever seen Penn and Teller's Bullsh**? It's a TV show that focuses on controversial topics or popular generalized ideas by trying to debunk any falacies or at least offer a different view from what most think. In one episode, they deal with organic foods and if their value is truly golden. I think it's worth a watch, it definitely changed my perspective significantly.
