Our GCC, Loki, will scream for hours in the afternoon. Its generally when the wild rainbow lorikeets are flying over or in the trees next door. She will also crack up if theres running water (washing machine filling up, or washing my hands) and if its raining. To us it seems normal, however it drives me insane and I worry about what the neighbours think. If she carries on too long, I'll put her cover over her til she calms down, and shes usually quiet after that.

It could be worse, apparently sun conures are even louder!

I'd say whatever was causing it, he was feeling very insecure and needed to be with you. As soon as you left the house completely he would've realised you were gone and there was no point, however when you were still in the house I bet he knew it and just figured the more he screamed the more likely he was to find you. Is there a quieter room in the house? Perhaps he needs to go into there to sleep? Bathrooms/Laundries seem to be fairly well insulated most of the time.

The screaming is a result of hormonal season, I've realized. I've altered his sleep schedule and lowered the apartment temperature. He's no longer screaming like a lunatic, but has since tried mating with my hand twice... which I'm not really fond of.

Gary Gallerstein in "The Complete Pet Bird Owner's Manual" suggests that mating behavior, while in some ways discomfiting to the owner, is a sign of a healthy and happy bird. If they don't feel their circumstances are good -- abundant food, safety -- they won't feel compelled to mate. So take it as a compliment...

My SIL stumbled on that Kakapo video that was posted here a while back. Have you seen it? It could be worse...

We have a Princess Parrot who used to have a fetish for toes, the corner of pillows and his cow, a small plaster cow that sits on a shelf high up above the kitchen, he used to enjoy pushing it off and dropping it on it's head, so we siliconed it onto the shelf, now he enjoys ... other things with the cow, specifically it's head. Poor cow.
Thankfully he's grown out of it, apart from the cow, he'll even sings and dance for it, get angry when it won't respond, he loves that cow.
Altho I have caught him with my Cockatiel hen before, she has a BF now tho so he won't go anywhere near it.
I'd say your GCC will grow out of his love for you hand, our GCC pair have started showing off for each other, but them being only 6 months old, and neither of us being able to hand rear chicks at the moment, we're hoping they'll get over it when they realize they don't have a box for eggs.

Oh, I'm flattered that he loves me. I really, really am. But I wish he could perhaps show that love on a perch or a toy and not attack me while I'm not looking to get to my very pretty, obviously needing-to-be-mated-with hand.
