Parrot acting really strange.

Postby Akhan » Sat Apr 16, 2011 4:48 am

Hello there, I'm a first time poster on these forums.

My parents parrot has been acting really strange today. Usually we can pet him(or her, for that matter) all we want. He's really relaxed around us, and has been known to even sleep on our shoulders. He, despite my blatant protests wears an aviarian diaper, and has since we got him when he was 8 weeks old. He's going to be six this summer. He has always been very fond of mirrors and the like.

Today he has been extremely silent, refuses to leave his cage, and if we take him out of it he refuses to use his feet! He just lies on the floor, and after a while he flies into a direction and plummets as he hits something (which was close to the ground, though). So we put him back in the cage since that didn't seem safe for him. He seemed aggressive when my mother wanted to put him back in the cage.

What's up with the bird? =/

Not being an expert here, but such a dramatic change in a birds behaviour would rush me to the vet with it! Birds are known for not showing illness until a very late state, so just to be safe I would go as soon as possible. Best of luck, I really hope it is nothing serious at all. :)

I'd definitely head to the vet. Lying on the floor not using the feet... unless somehow the diaper is restricting him from using them (has anyone looked under it?) that would be a serious red-flag warning for me.
