Not sure which article explains it best, but that's what google turned up.

I was just thinking, in my horse's First Aid Kit I have saline solution in their own little squeezy bottles with a twist off top (they're manufactured that way), perfect for flushing out wounds :) Especially as their sterile inside and there's no worries of needing to put it in a syringe. Not sure where you'd get them from tho as Dad brought me home oodles of them from a job at a Hospital (along with nearly everything else in my horsey First Aid Kit)

Excellent Advice!
Hadn't thought of some of the things suggested here.
Will be putting together a little kit of my own now :)

I mistakenly posted my Step Stool - First Aid Kit to RE:Bird Disaster Plans; you can see it there. Apparently my idea of disaster planning is somewhat understated. :gcc: ;)

Yup, got one for my flock (seeing as you know---one extremely jealous timneh and one tiny cockatiel...you will at some point need it  ).

I haven't opened it in a while but if memory serves me correctly there is:

-one latex glove
-scissors
-gauze
-information card (bird names, vets, standard at-home treatment for ...)
-eye flush solution
-tape
-q-tips
-i cant remember the name for it but its used to pinch off bleeding feathers etc
-general wound disinfectant

There's probably more but memory is failing me lol.

Pchela had a post in one of the stickies:

Lastly, you'll want to put together a bird emergency kit. This list was copied from http://www.naturechest.com/emergency-kit.html

Blunt ended Scissors
These can also come in handy if your bird becomes entangled in a toy or other material.
Styptic Powder, or other blood clotting agent
Use on bleeding nails or beaks in an emergency.
Avoid using directly on skin as some styptic powders can burn skin
A Carrier or small Cage
A small cage or carrier can also be used as a hospital area for an injured bird.
Locking Forceps, Hemostat, or good Tweezers
These can be used to remove a broken blood feather
First Aid Book
Latex Gloves
Gauze Bandages and pads
Cotton swabs and Q-tips
A list of emergency phone numbers
Avian Veternarian or closest emergency clinic and the Poison control phone number
Flashlight and batteries
Syringes for medicating or giving fluids
Nail clippers
Heating Pad
Warm (not hot) heat can often mean the difference between
life and death to a serously injured bird.
(optional) antibiotic ointment or spray
(optional) fluids for rehydrating

sounds like a lot but it's best safe than sorry eh?

Yeah I ride (when I can get the motivation) :) there's a few people on here with horses. I own a 14 yr old tb gelding (read nutcase), we play at some dressage and jumping, but I really enjoy just hacking out, it's what we do best.

Not only people do need to have first aid kit but our pets too. We must make sure that we do have it for them just in case of emergencies.
