I guess youknow of one of our new rescues,Mickey, the Red Lored Amazon, the previous owner said he'd not been out of the cage for 20yrs. Now after quarantine, he's been out in the bird room with the others and has been coming out and hanging out on his cage near Kong and her perch. To the best of our knowledge Mickey has never set foot on a real tree branch, (all his perchs are dowels)so we keep Kong's perch close so Mickey can adjust to it (Kong is very timid and befriends any and all non-aggressive birds)
Kong loves to eat pellets out of the container Josie uses to refill the dish with, and will stick her head all the way to the bottom for a pellet.Mickey who is a seed junkie and has never eat anything other than sunflower seeds has started to eat a few different things lately like fruit/vegs etc. he has only picked at a few pellets and won't eat them. Well this AM he watched Kong eating pellets close bye and showed some interest, when Josie gave him the container he munched one. Hooray, After awhile he was eating pellets right steady so i got the camera. I know it's not a big deal to most but realize that Mickey now has a chance now to double or triple his life span, he was way under weight , and in my impression might not be here much longer, well now he has a chance.
