HELP seed to pellet transition!

Postby kahawia » Mon May 23, 2011 10:00 pm

My caique was on a seed diet and I am very anxious to get her onto pellets. She doesn't like her pellets AT ALL. I provide her with a good balance of fruit, vegetables, and proteins, but I know she needs the pellets as a part of her daily diet. I have the Roudybrush pellets and I've tried mixing them with her seeds and fruits she picks them out. So I've recently been using a small amount of oatmeal and crushing the pellets and mixing it into the oatmeal. She loves this, but I know she doesn't need the excess sugar and carbs in the instant oatmeal. Any suggestions on what I should do?

What about mushing everything up or baking birdie bread with pellets?
I think if you gradually increased the amount of pellets in the oatmeal and start mixing some dry ones in it too, your bird might take to it.

What size of pellet do you have?

I use crumbles with all my birds, and it's been a great success. I've read that even the larger birds will take to the crumbles size because they have more of a feel and look of seeds.
