Plz help!!

Postby Boman » Sun Jun 05, 2011 4:11 pm

Hey all,

My wife's families blue headed pionus just flew into a pot of boiling hot water and was quickly removed, but they say she is acting sick like...I would imagine such.

They live in Lima Peru and I gave them a phone number for an avian vet down there, but they may be closed....

Is there anything they can do to help her out while they wait for a doctor? Could be a day

Thanks

I honestly looked for quite a while and came up with nothing :( I did find this though maybe it might help, its for dogs but it seems quite logical.

Step 1: Restrain the dog if necessary.

Step 1a: Approach the dog slowly, speaking in a reassuring tone of voice.

Step 2: Apply cold water or ice packs to the burned area and leave in contact with the skin for 15 minutes. DO NOT apply ointment or butter.

Step 3: If burns cover a large part of the dog's body or are located where the dog can lick them, cover the area with a sterile dressing. DO NOT use cotton.

Step 4: Wrap torn rags or other soft material around the dressing and tie or tape it just tightly enough to keep it in place.

Step 5: Transport the dog to the veterinarian as soon as possible.

I hope he/she feels better!

There is quite a bit of info about how to treat a bird with a burn.
It is very serious, no matter how bad the burn is. Apply lots of cool (not cold) water and take it to the vet asap.

Most likely the bird will need IV fluids, pain meds, and maybe even be sedated a little so he can cope with the pain. It must be horrible for a bird.
