Hi, How do you feed Vegetables to your Alexandrine parrot - do you give whole veges, or cut them into small pieces ...?

I'm sure your bird is like most parrots, they like what they like. You will probably just have to experiment to see how he prefers them. My IRN will eat them just about any way. Cooked, raw, small pieces, larger chunks. He's not picky.

Your ringneck may be a little more picky. I will buy bags of frozen vegetables, heat them up a little (don't serve them hot) and watch what he goes for. He loves hot peppers, green, red, yellow and orange bell peppers, carrots (raw or cooked), corn, peas, broccoli, etc. Here is P.J. eating in my office right now. He is eating a whole edamame- it's sort of like a mini foraging toy that is edible. Good luck in figuring your bird out, it's a fun process isn't it? :)

You are most welcome. It amazes me how different birds can be. My daughter's green cheeked conure won't really eat veggies, he's a seed and fruit nut. P.J. on the other hand loves fresh veggies. Like today, he had access to seeds and pellets all morning. He didn't eat until I served him veggies. Silly boy! :D

Yes Ariahna this is the issue - my Baby just wants sunflower seeds which I have limited to serving in the morning that to very few for mental satisfaction only.

I give him veges - trying out big chunks , small etc. He plays with them whenever he gets time. For instance will remove the pea from the veg and so on.

One thought I had was something I feed my birds. I have bought a few different cookable mixes for birds. Two of them are from Bird Street Bistro, they are called Fieasta- Feast on the Fly, and the other is Viva La Veggies. I also have given them a mix called Polly's Pasta from Crazy Corn. They have healthy grains, lentils, veggies and spices that are all organic. The veggies include peppers, peas, corn, kelp, and they have small amounts of seeds like millet and nuts like almonds. I wonder if you tried something like that your bird would realize trying new things is great and how good veggies are?

I was really lucky because P.J. Will try just about anything I serve him. Oh one thing I did was to pretend to eat, or actually eat the food myself. They rely on their parents to show them what is safe to eat and what isn't so that might help. :D
