need advice - need to buy new stove

Hi,
I have to buy a new stove. I purchased one at Lowes, but left it in the store until I could contact Whirlpool. It is not self cleaning, but cleans using steam, or can be used without. I called Whirlpool and they said the manual said some birds are sensitive and to move them to a well ventilated room. The birds are in another room with doors and windows closed. How do folks handle having to buy a new appliance without worrying about harming the birds? I'm wondering if after using it a couple of times it will be OK? Does anyone have any advice on this?
