I don't have parakeets so all the foods I have listed are for tiels. I just give larger pieces to the Amazons.

When you go and pick up your new friend, ask the breeder what they have been feeding him. When I got my tiel, I took a bag of seed from the breeder. Using that seed as a base, I slowly added pellets, veggies, fruit and a better quality seed (yes, mine has both seed and pellet) he is still not loving those fruit and veggies tho. Dont change his diet immediately cos you can give him an upset tummy and diarrohea, do it gradually, keep introducing fruit and veggies, and he will be one very healthy happy tiel.

My tiel loves: kale leaves, steamed veggies(steamed broccoli, sweetcorn, carrots etc), apple, pear and banana.
