limping after leg band removal

Postby Scouters » Wed Jul 20, 2011 8:45 pm

We took our conure we've had 2 weeks to the vet to have his leg band removed yesterday at 11:00. We had it removed because it was rubbing his feathers off - nothing more. He is still limping. He walked across the counter this morning, has balanced on the leg as well as has grasped food with it. doesn't look swollen, but it seems odd that 36 hours later he's still favoring it. The vet seemed to have a bit of a time removing it. Is this normal?

Take him back and ask the vet to check him.

Went to a different vet with limping bird. He said trauma to the leg is not that uncommon during leg band removal. He used cold laser treatment on the leg, with a follow-up on Monday. We'll see...
