Burning Oil Smoke Harmful?

Postby Michael » Wed Dec 23, 2009 10:56 pm

Does anyone know if the smoke that burns off a pan is harmful to parrots? I'm sure it's better avoided but sometimes when I'm seasoning my cast iron pans they start smoking just before I can get them off. I open a window and keep my parrot away but do you think I need to take any greater precautions or is it not that bad?

BTW I'm usually using corn or vegetable oil.

I was just reading about this tonight. The site linked below says burning oil can be just as bad as Teflon, but it doesn't say why and I can't find much more information about it, so take it with a grain of salt. Probably best to play it safe, though.
