Postby coolhady13 » Thu Aug 11, 2011 8:19 am

hi everybody

i have an 8 weeks old(maybe more :D ) baby cockatiel that im weaning him now . he can eat seeds by his own . but he doesnt drink water from his water bottle . will he naturally drink from it ? or should do something to make him understand that this is water and he should drink it :D ?

im feeding him formula 2 or 3 times a day .

Try a shallow bowl of water. I don't use bottles.

Can you give him water the same way you are giving formula?

the information I found at the following link might help you. Specifically, check out Drinking: Don't Forget the Water, although there may be additional info there that could be helpful. Assuming the info at the link is accurate, then it sounds like if your baby is getting enough formula, then it's probably getting enough to drink.

BTW, Cockatiels and Budgies don't drink much water. Maybe two gulps once a day. They come from arid climates. It is possible that it sneaks a drink in when you're not looking and that it's all it needs. Not saying this has to be the case, but a possibility.
