I have had only one cockatiel get sick and that was giardia. Of course one time I looked at Sweetie and she just didn't look right. When I picked her up I realized she had a seed stuck in each nostrile.

Go in your search engine and key in Cockatiel Illnesses. That should bring it up.

I am so sorry. I know how it feels. Charlene died in my hands from a tumor. I can still feel her little body in my hands. She was my cuddle bug.

So sorry to hear about Dusty, the poor baby. But when you posted your original question, did you realise that Dusty was not well? Why did you not take him to the a-vet? This is not a criticism, but a question. You seem to be getting and swapping a lot of birds in a short space of time. See you already replaced him with Whiteout.

Poor Dusty. Was he sick for the whole week? Did you quarantine the other birds that were with him, in case he was contagious? Did you quarantine the new bird? Please dont take any chances with these birds. If they are not acting in their usual way, please take them to an a-vet. Posting here asking for illnesses, then a week later Dusty is dead, indicates to me that Dusty may have been sick for a week. A week is a long time for a bird to be sick and in pain, please act quicker next time. If you intend to breed your birds (as you have indicated in previous posts), you will have to keep your birds in excellent health. They should be vet checked before you even think of breeding them. Better to be safe than sorry. good luck and thanks for posting back - thought you had gone LOL

Oh lemonlover. No, you cant just cuddle them till they pass. If the bird is in pain or ill, they must see an a-vet. Didnt you say your mum had some money put away for vet visits? If you are unable to care for the birds properly, I hate to say this, but maybe you should not have them. To not take a sick bird or a bird in pain to a vet, to me, is a form of cruelty. To be a responsible pet owner, we have to look after the animals. I am sorry, I really am, but you will need to re-think your plans to breed. You cannot sell sick birds.
