Well, I think common sense is a reasonable approach here. You want to avoid exposing your birds to anything that has a strong odor, because strong odors are usually an indication that there are lots of volatile compounds entering the air. I don't use any strong-smelling cleaning compounds in the immediate presence of the birds and if I'm using anything like that in a nearby room, I close the door. When it comes to perfume, deodorant, soap, mouthwash, hair gel, etc. etc. I apply them in the bathroom and I wait until the bulk of the odor has dissipated before I get into the same air space as the birds.
