I gave Kiwi a Green Grape today and when he would take a bite, he would shake his had back and forth as if it was something he didn't like, but then go for another bite. He repeated this EVERY bite he took. He never did this with anything else. Anyone else have a bird do this?
I didn't peel grapes of deseed watermelon for my kids. I'll be darn if I do it for that rotten boy. Besides - it is fun to watch him peel them. I attached a cardboard box to his cage under his door so when he is on his door perch things don't hit the floor.
He eats the outside of Cheetos and throws the inside at the dogs. He only gets them every couple months. Fat boy don't need to be eatin cheese and dogs don't need to be beggin birds.
Both my GCC and UnCape will shake their heads between bites of new fruits (too sweet / acidic / tart ?), but will often continue taking bites. I gave them Nectarine slices last week and they both went through this routine; my UnCape then tried washing his by dropping it into his water dish and then picking it out, but it still tasted bad so he walked over to the edge of his platform and dropped it. When I gave them Plum slices my GCC nibbled and shook his head, but my UnCape nibbled and then bit me for my efforts.
I bought Shadow & Lemone' cheap from a breeder who was over crowded and did not tame his birds. The cage was so crowded that these two became accustome to sleeping by hanging on the cage.
Technically I paid $300 for Myrtle her cage and toys. When I saw that price I new something was wrong. She was more of a throw away. I had her within 36 hours of the posting and it was none too soon. It was awful.
My friend was going to sell Rambo when she couldn't care for him anymore. I couldn't let that happen so I took him. The first three times she came to visit the mouthy little boy got quiet and hid from her. I found him sitting quietly in a cardboard box on the floor in the corner.
Sweetie was my first. I don't even remember how I got her it has been so long. My son traded something and got Twinkle.
Tommy & Tammy are my daughter Rachel's but when I had her move in for help I just put them in with the flock. Tweetle Dee & Tweetle Dumb are her's too.
Gee with the racket in this house you would think there were more.
Of course there are 5 dogs - 6 cats - 1 inguana - 1 guinie pig = foundlings and rescues.
You have an amazing heart and an amazing 'family" (human and animals) The world needs more Liz's. Thnx for sharing PS why did Rambo hide? Did he think he was going home with previous owner and not staying with the "nice" lady? He wasnt abused or negelected in previous home, was he?

She loved him dearly. She had been married for 11 years and no children. He was her kid.
They both worked and was gone all day. They gave him some of their breakfast when they ate and shared their supper. He came with a good vocabulary so I know she talked to him.
Her house was quiet during the day. Mine is never quiet. I guess he preferred the excitment over the quiet.
The fourth time she came he met her at the door and called her by name. They had a good visit. When she was ready to leave he came to me to make sure he didn't have to go.
Myrtle came from a quiet dark house. When I saw how she lived we stopped at a hotel before coming home so she could get used to me before it hit the fan. There was no reason to worry. She didn't come out of her cage for a long time but watched the excitement. She is part of it now.
