Pellets: Zupreem versus NutriBird?

I feed my birds Roudybush pellets. I briefly feed Nikko the fruit flavored ZuPreme ones when he was very sick (he had swallowed a tiny piece of metal) and wouldn't eat his regular pellets, but would eat the flavored ones. I kept feeding him ZuPreme after he recovered, but eventually switched him back to the Roudybush.

He would only eat the red ZuPreme pellets so there was a lot of waste. Also, his poop was bright red, and even though I knew it was the dye from the food, it concerned me because it would prevent me from seeing if he ever actually did have blood in his stool. Also, Nikko would always soak the pellets in his water dish before eating them. That created a nasty "parrot soup" that I was afraid would make him ill, and the extra moisture made his poops runny and not well-formed, again preventing me from being able to tell if he was ill or not. (It was watery poop that clued me in that he was ill in the first place.)

Since I still have leftover ZuPreme pellets, I use them in very small amounts in foraging toys, but that's it.

Thank everyone for your feedback!! I have also read a bit about NutriBird and was able to get a sample. Jo seems to like them (honestly, this bird will eat anything LOL)

So after I finish this Zupreem bag I will switch to NutriBird.

I use Zupreem fruit blend and the Veg blend and Rio loves them. My cockatiels like the veg mix too. I havnt heard much of the Nutri-bird though. Might have to give it a try.

The new Zupreem pellets look great but cant seem to get them here in the UK yet????

Nikko dunks? I thought Rambo was the only nut to do that. He will even dunk a cracker. I have to change his water many times a day. I even moved his water away from his food but he will travel to dunk.

Hey everyone, sorry to join in. I was just googling some info about Zupreem after reading about artificial colouring in dog/cat food. I remember reading that Zupreem says they use natural food colouring, and I've always warned people about what the colouring can do to their poop, as my conure's is usually red. However, I am concerned now because a few of you guys seem to really dislike zupreem's fruit blend because it actually contains artificial food colouring! Lucky for me Parrotdise Perch sells the pellets that was mentioned earlier.

I just wanted to clarify that despite Zupreem advertising its fruit blend using natural food colouring, that there is still artificial colouring? and enough to damage the bird? My lovebird and conure have been eating zupreem for about almost 7 years, and my budgie for 1 year. They won't eat Tropican, and because food is expensive in Canada, and shipping is still expensive in US dollars, there's really not much option for me is there?

Zupreem is very bad. Not only does it contain tons of color, sugar is the 4th or 5th largest ingredient. Now this just reminds me of Lucky Charms cereal for kids.

Also, there is vitamin K supplement in it..... It causes Cancer so it's been banned from human consumption, yet it's still legal for animal food.

I'm transitioning my birds to Totally Organics Pellets. I think these are the best you can get.

GlassOnion, have you already tried giving them Totally Organic Pellets? Are you planning on giving them the big ones or the small ones?

Squeaky, Iggy, and Malachite all took to Totally Organic Pellets pretty quickly but Romeo and Juliet hated them at first. They refused to touch them for a long time. I bought a bag of the smaller ones (Crumplets/Crumbles, can't remember the actual name) and they ate more of them than they did when I offered the bigger ones. Then the next time I bought the bigger ones and they ate them all. Very strange birds. Just curious as to what your experiences were with these pellets and what your birds thought. I agree they are an excellent pellet.

Vitamin K is EDIT: NOT potassium, which isn't by any means carcinogenic nor illegal for human consumption. It is actually an absolutely necessary vital element.
