Gram Scale?

Postby Cage Cleaner » Sat Oct 01, 2011 1:43 pm

Since getting my baby Sun Conure, I've been interested in purchasing a gram scale to monitor weight. Now that I'm making a second food conversion, this time from bad pellets to good ones, my motivation to find one has doubled.

Does anyone have a good gram scale they use for pets that they recommend? I've considered restaurant scales to actual vet scales, and just want to know what people here think is best.

A good digital household gram scale works great. And doesnt cost more than 25$ or so.

Yeah, there's no need for anything fancy. Definitely go digital. Grams are close enough to see changes in weight/diet so greater precision is unnecessary. You can put a perch on it and tare the scale with the weight of the perch or you can just put the bird on. I used to use a perch but since they broke it, just found it easier to put them straight on.

You can get a digital kitchen scale that does grams for around $10 on eBay.

Mine is made by Taylor. I think I picked it up at Target. It works great, although Dante gets spooked by it, so it can take a little coaxing sometimes to get him on.

I too suggest a digital postage scale. Not only can you weigh your bird(s) on it, but it's handy for mailing things.
