Strangest thing you have ever fed your parrot?

Postby Michael » Tue Oct 04, 2011 10:59 am

What's the strangest thing you have ever fed your parrot? Hopefully it's nothing dangerous but perhaps out of the ordinary? When breeders/stores are telling people to feed them anything they eat themselves except chocolate/avocados, makes you wonder what happens when the owner has quite the exotic diet. Any takers?

My two are completely opposite. The :sun: will not touch anything that is remotely unhealthy and the :gcc: is a junk food junkie. The :gcc: loves ice cream, but we restrict him to a very small amount of vanille. He is also a HUGE fan of popsicles, when ever my wife and I are eating popsicles, he always flies to us and begs, since there is nothing bad in them we let him nibble. I gave them some onion rings for lunch today, I guess that is wierd parrot food. Also, they prefer burger king hamburgers over any other fast food burger. Wendy's they will nibble at, McD's they will nibble at, but BK they tear into like they are starving. Niether of them like pellets, and I have tried and tried to get them to eat pellets, but to no avail. So in the cage they get fresh fruit, dried fruit and a conure mix. Out of the fruits, grapes and raisins are definitely thier favorites.

But as for the original question, I guess onion rings and popsicles.

Honestly-- bird bread is probably the weirdest thing they've eaten. It's a mix of MANY things..

I'm going to get yelled at, but here goes:

My GCC loves Hagen daaz coffee ice cream. Absolutely loves. He is your best friend when he knows you're eating it. I let him eat the whole tub. Just kidding.

I get a kick out of it when they eat chicken of any kind. Eggs, too, for that matter.

I had these taiwanese crackers made from beer yeast and he loved that, too.

He tried to eat my lollipop once.

They both like cereal... dipped in milk.

Other than that, there really isn't much that you can give to a bird that's really "extraordinary", but maybe someone will prove me wrong...

Also, forgot to mention spaghetti. As in with the pasta sauce. Talk about messy.

My old pet Cockatiel used to go mad for HOT curry flavoured super noodles!!

Was about the only thing I could make myself when I was a teenager and as soon as he coud smell them, he would go bonkers in his cage. I used to leave some for him on the draining board and try to ea my own before he finished his portion or he was over for more, lol

:amazon: Rambo eating spagetti with sause makes his area look like a war zone and he is a casualty.

I have been bad and given them a french frie now and then. Rambo, not :amazon2: Myrtle yet, has had a teaspoon of ice cream and loved it.

The funniest, and of course the worst, was a whole marshmellow Easter chick. I have a picture of that and the devastation it created. He beged and Igave in. It will never happen again.
