Screaming at my Boyfriend

Postby AER2222 » Sun Oct 09, 2011 6:48 pm

I was just wondering if anyone knows how to get my 19yr old Yellow Nape Amazon to stop yelling at my Boyfriend? I have had Tyler, the bird, for 10yrs. My boyfriend and I have lived together a little over a year. In the last few months Tyler seems to have decided that he no longer wants my boyfriend around and yells at him incessantly. When it is just Tyler and I he is fine, quiet and goes about his normal business. When it is just my boyfriend and Tyler at home he screams the entire time. "Hi" is his word of choice and he just yells it over and over. My boyfriend has to cover him to get him to stop and even then he will continue on at times. When all three of us are home at the same time, he goes back and forth from good to bad, from quiet to yelling. We had tried ignoring him, giving him no negative or positive feedback, we have tried saying "stop" and covering him, I've tried putting him in "time out" in a quiet dark room, but nothing works. We have no idea what to do to get our happy family back. Please help. :irn:

I'd guess diverting the parrot's attention would be best. Have your boyfriend do more handling and training with the parrot and it can learn to get along with him. I doubt punishment can be affective against screaming in any form. It's like spanking a baby for crying, only makes them cry more.

Maybe you could try having your boyfriend feed Tyler half of the time and have him give Tyler his favorite treats when he is out so your boyfriend will be associated with good things. I've heard of people in similar situations doing this and it helped.
