Goin' bananas!

Postby MeanDonnaJean » Sat Oct 15, 2011 5:08 pm

Tah dah! Today is THE day that all 3 of my guys FINALLY ate fruit. I had one last overripe banana left and so I decided I was gonna once again try this fruit thing for the I-dunno-how-many-eth-time now. I cut off tiny pieces of banana and put 'em in their food dish which still had some half-eaten Nutri-balls left in 'em. I was stunned while I watched as they actually ATE it for, like, a good 10 minutes or so. I mean these guys devoured it! They went BANANAS over bananas!

It's weird tho. I find it a bit odd that today of all days they decided to "do the right thing'...especially my two M/F budgies, Skye & Storm....for they began eatin' the banana a few moments after I had transferred them from one new cage to another new larger one (which was a chore in itself I might add...but that's a whole other story for a whole other topic). And, of course, what one bird does (or, in this case, what two birds do) in one cage, the other bird immediately wants to do in HER cage next door.....so naturally, Zoey the cockatiel began to eat HER banana as well. I was so very proud :-)

And so now ya know that there IS hope on gettin' yer birds to eat fruit. I purchased these 3 guys in mid-July, and I've been tryin' to get this fruit thing down pat since then. So, score 1 for the human!

Now, if only they can get the hang of vegetables :-(

That is wonderful. Rambo would not eat bananas until he saw Myrtle eat them. She was so malnurished that she tried everything.

Great! Luckily for me, Ladu started out eating apple a few weeks after i got him, and then he started trying all different veggies!

Nikko eats almost anything I give him. He'll at least try it, even if he doesn't like it. Maxwell is pretty good about it, too. Dante though...90% of the time, he ruffles up his feathers and shakes his head "no" whenever I try to give him something new to eat, even after he sees the other boys enjoying it. I've even tried eating some of it myself first, but he's still all "get that away from me!" He DOES seem to be more willing to try things if I use a spoon to feed it to him, however. Crazy bird!
