Cockatiels' diets

Postby m.k » Tue Oct 18, 2011 11:23 am

Hello,
I just bought 2 cockatiels, Lucy and Titan, they are about 7-8 months, about a week ago and would like to know their perfect diet. They already like cilantro and seeds, should i add any other food to their diet.

Hi,

Cockatiels are not really a fan of fresh foods but they need them, so try putting some chopped up apple in they're bowl every day and if you're lucky, they will try it, and if not, just do it every day and eventually they will try it. Also, pellets are good for them too and they could be mixed in with they're seed mix.

My cockatiels love fresh food, except for most fruit, but I hear it is common for cockatiels to dislike fruit. They eat most veggies but their favorites are asparagus, bok choy, mesclun salad, and carrots. I got them started by adding frozen mixed veggies to their seeds and pellets. It also helps to give them a big healthy meal of fresh veggies early in the day when they are hungry.

You can also try giving them beans too. My cockatiels love beans.
