Quaker Parrot with Split Beak - A Disease Starting?

Hello,

We were a lucky family who have a Monk / Quaker parrot since 1990 when he hatched - he is almost 23 years old! He is happy and well cared for. Recently however he developed something that has us concerned. His beak has chipped or split and we are concerned it might be the start of some disease, perhaps PBFD. We were hoping for advice, please look at his photos and tell us any recommendations. He has only been sick once in his 22 years and we know he is getting old for a small parrot but we love him so very much and want to know what is best to do. Thank you all!

That looks very, very normal to me. Just a growing beak, wearing off the top layers.. My birds' beaks look like that sometimes, and it's quite common especially during moulting.

But, you do need to know that this forum is not a veterinary forum nor are we really qualified to answer anything medically serious.- if you doubts, definitely take him to a vet.

Seconded. It looks normal to me, also. But out of all of us, you know the bird the best. And if it's something that you've never noticed before, a vet visit is the best thing to do.

Thank you everyone for your advice and thoughts, I as well think it is just a scrap on his beak but it is the first beak damage we have ever had so I needed some feedback. After seeing pictures like these:

we became very concerned. I actually keep him from the Vet to cut down on stress and the other diseases all the sick animals there expose him to. I give him his special pellet/nuggert mix and make sure he gets his exercise for his neck and little green drumsticks. Other than that he has been great since I was 9 years old!

Well today the little guy passed on to the big Fig tree in the sky. He was a wonderful pet, a ton of personality - easy to communicate with, always knew what his squaking meant and was about and what he wanted. I will miss his warm feathered tummy resting on my cheek and his gentle allopreening of my eyebrows and eyelashes. He lived a very long and happy life for a small parrot (he would have celebrated his 25th birthday in a few weeks!). Hopefully I will see him one day on the Rainbow Bridge. Love you Quakey!
