Two Unrelated Topics: Baths and Fleas

Postby Whaleman76 » Fri Dec 16, 2011 12:32 am

Hey all,

Two unrelated topics. One: My Sun Conure has recently stopped bathing. She used to bath regularly 1-2x per week. She would always refuse the first bath offered, then bath in the second one. But she would always bath. Now she hasn't bathed in like 2-3 weeks. Is this a problem. Is there a solution. Today, I just sprayed her. I always warm the water a little to make it tepid. And it's never been a problem until now. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks. Question Two: Our dog recently came home with fleas. We have not detected any in the house and thoroughly vacuumed and washed everything that can be put in the washer. Can birds get fleas? How do you treat them if they do? and how do you treat the house if it needs treating? Is there any treatment that is parrot-safe??? Just want to be prepared in case. Double Thanks.

well I only have an answer for your second question. fleas can be a problem to birds, but usually in your local petstore you can get a flea and tick spray that you spray your birds with. just be sure to read the instructions beforehand. it worked great on Bo when I had him. :)

How do you offer baths to your bird? Do you use a spray or running water, or a bowl of water?

If I offer Jello :sun: a bowl of water, he may not bathe in it right away, but if I splash it with my hand a bit and make excited sounds, he'll get excited too and start bathing.

I know this is counter to what you'd expect, but Jello :sun: prefers fairly COLD water. He doesn't like water that is room temperature, and certainly hates warm water.
