Timneh Grey and discolored face and feather loss

Postby conundrumx96 » Sun Dec 25, 2011 8:42 pm

New to these forums. I was wondering if anyone here has had a similar issue with their parrot.

Saachi is a 15 year old Timneh Grey that over the last 3-4 months has developed a darkening and feather loss to her face. An area adjacent to her beak has developed swelling on both sides. She is not sneezing, and there is no discharge from nares.

My vet said the swollen areas could be granulomas from a fungal infection and he wants to remove these and do fungal cultures. Initital labs and bacterial cultures were normal/negative.

Any similar experiences? I am planning on following the advice of my vet, but it is hard as no treatment has been started and I feel kind of helpless at the moment.

Thanks.

All good parents feel that way when their babies are sick. You have the right response.

I don't know what the vet saw but could you improve his diet in any way? An improved diet will not cure the problem but could keep it from increasing until the vet can solve it.
