Eclectus diets in other birds.

The other day I was wondering about my birds' diet. I know that ekkies have a special diet and cannot be converted to other parrots without health consequences. My question is, can i feed my conure the same diet as the ekkie?

As it is they get the same fresh/frozen foods but I have two containers of dry food mixes, one a dried trail mix with fruit, veggies, nuts, and very little seeds for the ekkie. The other is rotated 'parrot mix' like roudybrush/kaytee that has colored pellets/seeds for conures/med parrots. (I'm sure you all know the bags.)

I haven't tried this and probably won't unless i get positive feedback here and from my vet. My question is will the conure be healthy if i seriously cut back the amount of seeds and eliminate the colored pellets from his diet?

To the best of my knowledge cutting back on the seeds and coloured pellets of a parrots diet is a GOOD thing - coloured pellets are no good for any parrot, and most parrots could do with cutting a bit of fat out of their diets.

The more fresh food in any parrot species diet, the better.

I definitely tink you could. Ekkies diet is just healthy. Maybe give the others more seeds if necessary. As for pellets, you could give them all golden 0'bles or tops, which are both okay for Ekkies, in very small quantities, like 8 pellets per day...
