My African Grey is afraid to climb on a stick after falling

Postby Aaron » Sat Jan 07, 2012 3:11 pm

Hi,
My African Grey had a stick in his cage to climb on. He used to chafe his beak on it and a few days ago the stick broke down and my parrot fall. I've put him a new stick but he seems to be afraid and don't want to climb on it until now. Today it also seemed that his feet hurt him because he has to hang his cage. Please, do you know how to make him confident again?
Thank you in advance.

Get him some real natural perches with stainless steel hardware, you can order them online.

Thank you but I don't think that this will change his behaviour.
Does anybody has another idea? :amazon:

Just put in a variety of different perches and leave him to figure it out on his own. Stick a rope comfy perch in there for variation as well. This one's up to him to get used to.

Greys are cautious animals. He's scared because he hasn't seen it before. You need to desensitize him to a bunch of new objects, people, situations on a regular basis. Just like people, animals need socialization.
