feathers change

Postby kasper » Sun Jan 15, 2012 11:46 pm

hey guys ..
I have my orange winged amazon parrot
he is in a good health .. at regular time for playing .. sleeping ..eating a full-component diet
and everything goes fine ..
but for long time ago .. i noticed that there are some feathers especially the ones near his head and at the upper back .. get damaged and become grey at the end of it .. become weak and like a separate hair-like or threads
and when you look at his back .. you fine like there are grey spots scattering
even though i used to give him a complements like antibiotics and vitmanins powder once a week
but still nothing change
and i dont think that it might be genetic ,, bcoz at past he didnot have such a thing
what do u think guys the problem will be??!!

Yeah, something is seriously off. What do you feed again? What about for enrichment? Lots of toys for chewing and foraging?

I used to provide my parrot with a good well-mixed diet
and some fruits which they like .. like apple

it is a quite similar to the pic here
http://www.colonelsbirdfood.co.uk/Colon ... 0Large.jpg

also has a small woody square-like toys for chewing
once in a week having shower in warm sunny weather :)

I mean simply .. everything is just right .. but still he shows some fear and irritability toward me and others
but I can put my hand on his head and make him calm

Seeds are really high in fat and fruits are high in water and sugar. Perhaps consult your vet about converting to a natural pelleted diet (such as Harrisons or Totally Organics - avoid Zupreem) and encourage them to eat more dark veggies like kale, spinach, green beans, carrots, etc. Fruits are ok for treats and seeds and nuts make great rewards for training! :)

I respectfully say that the staple you're feeding is majorly unsuitable. Please convert him to a good brand of pellets like TOPS or Harrisons, take him out more in a harness or a carrier for some sunshine :) also, a vet visit wouldn't hurt!

You should be able to order them online. www.mysafebirdstore.com has good prices.

Your bird's diet should be mainly different types of grains,
colorful veggies and fruits, but seed and nuts should not be over 10-20% of overall diet.
