Cruelty at UK Parrot "Sanctuary"

Postby snuffkin » Wed Jan 18, 2012 5:31 pm

The National Parrot Zoo at Skegness in the UK are neglecting the parrots which they have vowed to care for.

Over 160 parrots have died there last year through lack of appropriate heating and shelter during the winter and sub-zero temperatures. The RSPCA named it 'an inappropriate place for birds to be re-homed to', and there is also a damming DEFRA report i am currently trying to get hold of, as well as a catalogue of photographic evidence showing sheer neglect.

The proprietor allegedly spent 2011 investments on a cafe and a playground for visitors rather than the much needed cage improvements and basic hygiene issues.
Rats crawl along the floor and share bird's water, monkey nuts form a large part of the diet, and sick, desperately ill birds are going visibly untreated.
They also charge a mandatory £100 donation for any owner wanting to re-home their parrot.

Here is the campaign's facebook page (though it seems to be only very recently created)

To think i nearly visited this place last year makes me sick. I am glad they never saw a penny from me and I hope they are shut down and the parrots taken into adequate care VERY soon.

This made me feel sick to my stomach and it gave me nightmares. I joined the Facebook group as well, I hope those poor babies get rescued and those careless people get punished. :(

Parrot sanctuary? More like Parrot concentration camp. These conditions are ridiculous, they think they wanna save parrots, well....they are killing them. They are lazy and totally turning a blind eye to these sick parrots. In my opinion, these people should not be allowed to keep parrots at all, they should be chucked in the slammer.

That is truly a shame. You think that you are sending your bird to a good place, but it is not. Should be taken to court.

I can think of a few other ways I'd like to handle this matter instead of takin' 'em to court ;-)
