Preening is very good, gently break off the keratin sheaths on the pin feathers. Once she has feathers, she'll look a lot bigger. Good luck!

hi melon, mya loves to be preened. i don't know about sulfer crested but she gets red pin feathers somtimes i leave those alone it seams to bother her if i try to preen those and they are hard. i use my fingernails like a beak and start at the tip and gently scrape off the white part and work my way toward her head.

yes melon there are collars, the woman who i adopted mya from had a mullocon that she collared because she had ripped a 3inch hole in her chest if it's not raw or bleading though you might try a sweater or a sock. the worst thing you can do is give her attention while she's plucking, toos crave attention any time mya would pull at hers i would turn away and stop talking to her. she has almost completely stopped.

hi melon, i've heard two different stories on bathing cockatoos 1 because of their powder/dust they need to be bathed more than once a day. the other is once a week because of powder/dust. i mist mya a little once a day i don't soak her like my other birds she doesn't like bathing at all i'm going to try a wide bowl with a little water see what she does i just found this suggested somewhere so i'll see and update later. the white feathers get smudges so easy.
