Conure from hoarding situation

Postby mandolynn » Tue Jan 31, 2012 10:24 pm

Hi, I adopted a Mitred conure recently. He was brought to the pet store I worked at abo
ut 8 months ago. I know the home he came from was in very poor condition with too many animals for the owner to handle. He smelled like cat urine for weeks, even after daily bathing. His cage and things were covered in feces and litter. I wanted to adopt him, but the owner of the store wanted to sell him, even though he was sick and old. He was on antibiotics for an ear infection, but still seems just not right. His eyes are bloodshot, and he scratches his ears often. I'm going to take him to my vet but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas what this might be. Ammonia poisoning? Will he ever recover?

No idea, but keep him AWAY from your ringneck. Seriously, you don't know what diseases he has and you could end up with two ill birds and a broke bank account from the bills.
