Lorikeet stripping tail feathers

Postby kiwihiflyer » Sat Feb 11, 2012 5:59 pm

My Rainbow Lorikeet has recently started stripping his tail feathers. He has been with us for about three years and we haven't had a problem but just before christmas he start stripping his tail feathers. Any ideas as to why and what I could do to stop this??

Has there been a change in his diet/environment? Have you taken him to a vet? Sometimes mutilation of feathers is not just the problem, it can be a symptom that something is wrong.

There has been no change in his environment or diet. I have finally found a proper avian vet to take Chaos to so that will be done in the next couple of days.

Does he have enough foraging toys to stimulate his mind during the day? Do you change his toys weekly?
