Eating sessions

Postby macbrush » Thu Mar 01, 2012 6:15 pm

Recently, I started sprouting varies nuts and seeds for my own and my bird's consumptions. Apart from offering sprouts as rewards, I found that sharing an eating session with Spencer make him a very happy bird, especially when I show him new stuffs, just eat in front of him, and then encourage him to sample some. He usually would drop them first time or two, but when he really tries to chew them, his eyes were pinning like crazy, which I think he founds the sensation and taste really interesting. Another interesting find is that he would make a soft "chicken" sound to ask for the food when he decides to try something new. Funny bird.

What sort of Milk? Dairy should not be given because it contains lactose but other milks may be ok in small quantities (rice, coconut, soy etc). Natural unsweetened yogurt is supposed to be a good, healthy alternative.

Yes dairy milk contains lactose and our parrots cannot digest it or else they'll become sick. Try soya milk.

I give it three times in a day.
I also give some milk for the minerals and protein purpose.

Seeds are pretty fattening so there are better sources of vitamins - such as kale, carrots, broccoli, green beans, etc. And sprouted seeds are better than unsprouted ones because when a seed begins to sprout, enzymes "turn on" and the fat content is lower. The more variety the better. An all or mostly-seed died is not good.
