I'm always looking for new and different foods I can give to my birds to help keep them interested in their diet.
I buy organic sweet potatoes and carrots and give them to my birds as often as I can. I was in the grocery store the other day and I saw this: HAPPYTOT SWEET POTATO, CARROT, APPLE & CINNAMON.
It's all organic. I read the ingredients and everything is bird friendly: organic apple, organic sweet potato, organic carrots, Salba® (sahi alba 911 & 912 registered varieties of chia seed), organic lemon juice concentrate, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), organic cinnamon
I'd never heard of chia seed but I did a little research and it's great for birds; it's a source of Omega 3.
I don't know how much it costs online but at the grocery store it was $1 (USD). The instructions on the package say to refrigerate once open and use within 24 hours. Obviously I could never use it all within a day so I just squeezed bird-sized portions into an ice tray and froze it. I'll microwave it and serve it at room temperature. It should last me about 2 weeks if I feed it every day.
My birds really love it! I'm excited that I have a new and easy way to provide my birds with vitamin A, vitamin C, and Omega 3. I'll still serve them sweet potatoes and carrots but it's nice to have a mixture that's already prepared.
I thought I'd share just in case anyone else was interested. They have another blend (green beans, pears & peas) I might try as well.
