Organic sweet potato, carrot, apple and cinnamon

Postby Andromeda » Mon Mar 05, 2012 3:10 pm

I'm always looking for new and different foods I can give to my birds to help keep them interested in their diet.

I buy organic sweet potatoes and carrots and give them to my birds as often as I can. I was in the grocery store the other day and I saw this: HAPPYTOT SWEET POTATO, CARROT, APPLE & CINNAMON.

It's all organic. I read the ingredients and everything is bird friendly: organic apple, organic sweet potato, organic carrots, Salba® (sahi alba 911 & 912 registered varieties of chia seed), organic lemon juice concentrate, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), organic cinnamon

I'd never heard of chia seed but I did a little research and it's great for birds; it's a source of Omega 3.

I don't know how much it costs online but at the grocery store it was $1 (USD). The instructions on the package say to refrigerate once open and use within 24 hours. Obviously I could never use it all within a day so I just squeezed bird-sized portions into an ice tray and froze it. I'll microwave it and serve it at room temperature. It should last me about 2 weeks if I feed it every day.

My birds really love it! I'm excited that I have a new and easy way to provide my birds with vitamin A, vitamin C, and Omega 3. I'll still serve them sweet potatoes and carrots but it's nice to have a mixture that's already prepared.

I thought I'd share just in case anyone else was interested. They have another blend (green beans, pears & peas) I might try as well.

Cool, thanks for sharing. One question, when you feed your birds sweet potato, do you have to cook it or do you just peel it and chop it up for them.

I cook it first; not sure if you can feed it raw but I don't see why not?

Umm... there may be multiple Frank Lloyd Wrights, but I believe he was an architect and designer. I had a class instructor in art school that photographed his work early on in her career.

I have absolutely no idea what he has to do with sweet potatoes, though.

I personally stay away from Ascorbic Acid in most products it's synthetic...

Read this and decide for yourself...
