what avain vet did you go to? im also from san diego and i been looking around for an avian vet. ive had my YNA for about 4 months and i want take her in for a basic examination. through some google searching and yelping it seems that dr todd r. cecil from pesc is a good choice. on the other hand i found many bad reviews/dissatisfied customers that went to dr jeff r. jenkins office ( avian & exotic animal hospital), many complained about over priced meds and malpractice.

On the leg band issue, I feel the vet is verbally showing you his priorities are not in your fid. It really is not necessary for leg bands to be removed unless it's causing a problem for you fid, but mirco-chips can cause irritation around the area where the chip was implanted it has been known to cause plucking to digging in to the skin. Many people have their opinions about leg bands but they are the reason exotic birds can be kept as pet in the USA, and in some states require them on pet birds.

Getting blood work is very risky but I got both my fids tested for PB&FD, Psittacosis, Chlamydophila, and herpes viruse (which doesn't require drawing blood) because I wanted to be on the safe side with my fids. I also will be getting more parrots later in my life that I personally feel it has to be done for the the their protection and ours. I don't know what CBD is? But for sure the first three I mention is important and I do recommend you getting these test done.

Third I also live in Northern California but I live further north of Sacramento but I live near an avian vet.

I went to Pet Emergency & Specialty Center in La Mesa. When I bought Kismet at Bird Crazy, they told me that it wasn't required to get her a check up but they offered it free from 2 different vets to choose from. (knowing that it was free, I already had my doubts) I wanted to go to Avian & Exotic Animal Hospital but the avian vet was on vacation and wouldn't be back in time to do my check up in the the week time limit Bird Crazy gave me. The reviews for the Emergency Center were horrible, but I checked them AFTER I went. Stupid me. I'll be taking Kismet to a REAL avian vet sometime soon after through research. I got mixed reviews about the Exotic Animal Hospital as well ...
