Some unlisted veggies...

Postby Rokisha » Thu Apr 05, 2012 1:03 pm

I haven't seen anything on pickles or zucchini when it comes to a parrots diet and if it is good or bad for the parrot. I would like some information on these two food items if anyone can help. I currently am growing my own zucchini and potatoes and i do tend to eat pickles alot(Not just because I'm pregnant I eat them when I'm not since they are a fav snack of mine.). Another thing I'm curious about is olives. Are any of these good or bad for a bird to eat? Joe tends to be curious and want a bite of whatever it is I am eating, especially if it's a fruit or veggie. I am planning to grow my own dragonfruit later on and would like some info on that as well.

Definitely not pickles. Otherwise I'd say that most fruit are safe (not the skin) but empty calories. They can be served in moderation but probably don't do them much good. I'd avoid getting involved with questionable foods because the risk doesn't justify the purpose.

I can't speak for the other stuff but I can say that zucchini is fine. My brown-headed parrot loves zucchini (and yellow squash). I serve it raw and cooked. He likes both.

My Furbie loves zucchini, I usually give it to him lightly steamed. I would say pickles are a no-no because of all the salt, ditto with olives!

Thank you, all three of you, for your advice. I really appreciate it and any more anyone can offer. As far as the zucchini goes, Joe will have to wait until it's ready to harvest before she can have any lol.
