Not again :(

Another sore has appeared on the ankle of the same leg this evening, its bleeding a touch. Again no idea how its happened, I've been in all evening and not heard any screams or seen him do anything. Both my boyfriend and I have been over his cage with a fine tooth comb but neither of us can find anything sharp, also why has it only just started happening and why only his right leg? I'm confused.

Well Ollies been up all night screaming blue murder. This morning he doesn't want me near him again. I've managed to take a look at him and he doesn't look bad under his wings at all. Theres no new sores on his foot since yesterday evening. I'm leaving him alone now poor thing

It looks like the sores that preceed bumblefoot but I have no idea how he would have got those and obviously I am not a vet. The only other thing I've seen like this was on a cockatiel that had underskin mites and once treated developed ulcerative dermatitis.

Have you seen him biting at it all?

My first thought was bumblefoot, but its right between the toes, not on an area that takes pressure and on his leg too, they also came up far too quickly to be that imo. I haven't seen Ollie biting (as yet) but reguarly see Harlie going a bit crazy at her feet, there is not a thing wrong with her feet though.
I e-mailed all the pics to the vet yesterday and am waiting to hear back.

The mites is an interesting theory though, of course if they did have underskin mites it wouldn't show on the feather plucks we had done.

Yeah burrowing mites can cause open sores on beak, feet, under wings and vent.

Poor Ollie. I'm so sorry he's continuing to have health problems.

So about 3 months then of nothing but good health being displayed from both birds and now the screaming has started again with Ollie and harlie is flicking her wings in irritated fashion. Ollie doesn't want to be with me at all again although I have managed to persuade him with food, nor does he want to fly anywhere. Ive managed to check his wings and the bald patches are back but he doesn't look sore like before thankfully.

**Edit** just checked back on this and I'm picking up on a 3 month pattern here things go quiet for a bit then 3 months later another bout of symptoms occur. I need to go back through all my posts to be absolutely definite about this though.

Polyfolliculitis does this, it has 'flare ups' like eczema and its caused by a virus (a bit like the herpes virus causes coldsores)... complications can include; open wounds, sores on feet and beak...

I'm sure I've said this before so I'm sorry but i've seen this exact thing on a poster at the AV :-/

Parajita seems quite switched on about these things.. perhaps you could ask her for any ideas?

An extract from a paper.. sounds like both birds are making the wounds before you can see the polyfollicles.
