Hey Liz, the vets here don't seem to be seeing animals that aren't registered with them as emergancy cases- ridiculous. I will travel anywhere in the country that I need to though, I don't care about the cost either. My birds are priceless to me. I've been ringing round the nearest places and working outwards, obviously when a birds sick, the nearer the better. I'll keep ringing places.

Both birds have already been tested for giardia and come back negative, it is hard to diagnose though so we had to get 3 samples from each bird. I should think they would have tested positive out of 6 samples if it is that though.

Does anyone else know of a UK avian vet who will see a 'tiel ASAP?

Sorry :( but if you take a 12 something hour trip to sthlm I know one who will make sure to book an appointment the same day even if it means pulling double shifts.

Sorry bout the reply, was more of a bump of the thread to encourage someone from UK to give you an excellent tip since visiting my vet in Stockholm Sweden is clearly not an option.

Haha, well if the best care available is in Sweden I would be more than willing to go there. I don't know the regulations about taking pet birds there though plus the journey would probably be way too stressful. As I said though, thank you- the reply is appreciated.

Just wish i knew what was wrong with them.

Well I can't reply if it's the best or not but I know Gunilla (the vet) cares a lot and if I call her up couse I'm worried she lets me come in after hours if no available times on the schedule and still charges me the normal fees.
As for traveling with a bird here, if you fly here you would have to fly to stockholm Arlanda or Gothenburg (whatever the airport there is called) where you declare you have a pet bird with you and you meet up with a veterinarian at the airport (this is since your from uk and I know their on the list of countries in Europe working together when it comes to animal import/export rules etc) however it is only if you fly you will have to declare it in the customs coming from the uk. As for US travellers any animal coming to Sweden would land in Germany for a long ass quarantine period.

Anyways, sorry for the silly reply but yes no hassle traveling through most countries in Europe in a caravan or something bringing your birds along.

yeah, it didn't affect Harlie first time, its since Ollie got sick again it has been affecting Harlie but her only symptom before was rough preening which made her scream, everything else has been pretty much normal for her. That and the fact I've only been taking Ollie to the vet to save Harlie the stress (shes still quite wild) is why she isn't mentioned as much in previous posts, though she does make appearences.

So I've managed to keep her eating but shes been eating so little I've been offering lots of sunflower seeds which is getting some food in her at least. A vet looked at her and is as baffled as my own vet, he told me to do whatever it takes to keep her eating, he also gave me supplements for her water.
I've been sneaking a peek under her wings when she stretches and up to now she has looked fully feathered. Last night she lifted her wings very briefly and there was what looked like the beginnings of a bald spot underneath. She hasn't stretched since so I haven't looked to confirm it yet. I keep watching her but I think I may have to catch her to get a proper look which I don't want to do if I can help it :(

I'm waiting for another call from the vet, if I don't hear today I'll be getting a new vet first thing. I know who the new vet will be as we considered her last time we switched but decided the nearest vet possible would be better.

Well I got Harlie up onto my shoulder, if she decides she wants to come out she will usually climb up and sit there hissing at me occasionally if I move my head too quickly lol.

I let her sit there for a while before putting my hand over her back and examining under her wings. She did struggle but was much better behaved than I expected, anyway it appears I imagined her bald spots because there definitely isn't one although I do think she has thinned out a bit under both wings in more or less the same place Ollie is bald.

I've managed to speak to the vet and he is phoning me back in the morning as was seeing clients.

I'm completely sick of all this waiting now :(
