Please help - Cuttlefish bone

Postby 143PARROTLOVE » Sat May 05, 2012 11:31 pm

Hi people. I just bought a parrot which I think is a parakeet . It's my first time so I have no experience. Yesterday, I bought a cuttlefish bone, but I don't know how to hang them at the side of the cage, so I placed it on the floor of the cage. Can I do that? Oh and I have never gave him a bathe , must I do that? Please help

You can buy clips to hang cuttlefish up, plastic ones for a budgie will be fine but anything bigger will possibly need a metal clip, if you choose metal make sure it's stainless steel. I wouldn't leave it on the floor because it's almost a given that your bird will poop on it at some point which isn't hygienic.
Your bird will need bathing. Try offering a shallow dish of water or spraying him with a plant mister.
Next thing to do is find out what species your parakeet is, there are many types that are called parakeets although budgies are most commonly called them so have a look or post a photo on here and we can probably help you.
Once you know what species you have you can then do as much research as you possibly can so you know what it needs, what to expect from it and how to deal with certain behaviours.
