hi everyone thought you may find this interesting

Senegal & Pionus food packs (all small parrots & large parrakeets)

The Senegal and Pionus pack is recommended by Parrotcare to give your bird everything they need for a happy and healthy life.

Food pack contains the following:

2.5kg Parrot elite (contains 48% sunflower including, white, medium and small seeds. Also contains dried fruits and nuts).

2.5kg Parrakeet mix (contains mixed millets and all smaller seeds).

2.5lb Kaytee rainbow (colourful pellet deigned for all smaller parrots).

100ml Calcivet (high quality liquid supplement that should be given to all birds).

100gm Daily essentials 3 (contains multi-vitamins, rapsorb minerals and amino acid).

Instructions for use:

Mix the elite, parrakeet and Rainbow with your own cut fruit and vegetables.

Put 2 drops of Calcivet onto the food twice weekly, sprinkle a small amount of daily essentials 3 onto the food twice weekly (as you would put pepper onto your own food).

May I ask if you got a bird from there? If you did how was you experience with it? Asking out of curiosity as it is one of the places I was considering getting my next bird from.

My bird was a rescue
i bought her from my next dor neighbour, it was an emergency situation because he was unable to look after her shes a :irn: who is almost six yeard old now. i am researching how to use multivitamins with outher diets than harrisons pellets in case of a problem getting harrisons as other diets are far easier to obtain although i like harrisons, i am just doing research.

i have never bout a bird from parrot care but good luck getting your new bird.

what do you think about these diet recomendations.?

It looks pretty good and balanced but there is a few things I would change out of preference.

I would change the pellets for harrisons or another non coloured pellet as I don't like the thought of my bird consuming all the additives in the coloured one. I also like that the Harrisons is organic. It does have a short shelf life in comparison but that can be combated by freezing it. I buy the biggest bags so I get free delivery and it works out cheaper for the food itself. Portion it down into smaller bags then get a new bag out when needed.
Harrisons is easy to get hold of in England, I don't know about other countries.

I don't see the need to add any vitamins or minerals to a complete pellet diet as a base with fruit, vegetable, seed, sprouted seed/bean/pulse mix and small amounts of appropriate human food. Some species may be an exception such as greys which need more calcium than other species. I think fresh foods are as important in the diet as the pellets because the process of making the pellets destroys all the enzymes in the food.

Thanks for the good wishes, a new parrot is a while off yet because my two aren't right at the moment and time issues.

I do NOT support Kaytee, because Kaytee runs a bird mill pumping out thousands and thousands of budgies, cockatiels, lovebirds, etc in a factory setting. Also, their products are considered to be at the lowest on the quality ladder in comparison to other brands. Harrison's or TOPS or Golden O'bles or even Roudybush are much better for your birds than Kaytee foods.

Hi guys

I Just found this diet interesting because they gave you very specific instructions, thankyou very much for the feedback.

I dont personally feed my bird anything that is Kaytee because of some of the ingredients and preserves and colours but i know a bird sanctury that uses them. They feed kaytee rainbow to the parrots there possibly because it is, cheap readiliy aceptted by the diverse parrot species that they care foor, and since the birds are outside in averies it maybe easier to feed than harrissons which can spoil in hot weather and which losses freshness after opening.

I also find it interesting that on the packeets of the pellet diets all manufacturiers seem to assume that clients will feed the pellet as 90% of the overall diet not ony as a vitamin supliment which can also me done.
However i understand why they make that assumption, because if you dont know how to ballance the birds diet correctly you can make them ill, by accident so pelllets are an easier convienient option.

I do feed harrisons because other brands like roudybush or tops pellets are not acessible to me in the u.k.

i have tried my parrot briefly on pritty bird pellets but i found them way to chemical, and my ringneck loves zoopreem pellets but i dont like to give her those now that i know about the suger in them as well as the colours in fruitblend.

I also give her some dried chillies ans tiny amounts of dried bannana from wilsbridge frooty parrot that i can by localy and then i give her brow rice and whatever vegtables i am eating green oringe o red vegtables
