Loves reflection

Postby Zooey » Mon May 21, 2012 6:08 pm

I took Duke and Perry into the foyer yesterday to train them, as it is the only room I can feel safe with them flying around in. I put the cage next to the mirror, and Duke immediately jumped off his perch. He went to the back of the cage to the mirror, and tried to chew his way out of the cage. Then he rubbed his head against the bars for about five minutes, until I stopped him. I moved their cage away, and he returned to normal. Does he love his reflection or something? Is it normal for budgies to be obsessed with their reflection but not other budgies?

I disagree that all birds like their reflection, Ollie definitely doesnt, it stresses him out so much. Jack and Harlie wasn't keen either. George used to love his reflection and started displaying whenever I took him near one as did Madison my budgie. The only other bird of mine that ever went near a mirror was Rosie because she came with one in her cage, she just ignored it, she was the only one that had a mirror in or near her cage.

It's strange, because he pays more attention to his reflection than he does to Perry. Why is this?
