oh I know, I'm just worried how some people may take it, some people will see that he has tons of experience with birds and may take it literally because he knows what he is doing.

Thank you for the advice and concern everyone!

I had to wake up at 5am this morning, in order to make the 8 hour trip to bring Baby, the Umbrella Cockatoo, and the two Green Cheeks (Salt and Pepper) I rescued to this absolutely fabulous sanctuary where they can live out their lives.

Anyway, I knew it might be good for Chubby to be alone and rest for awhile, he tends to get very excited when we are around and he climbs all over his cage and jumps everywhere. We tried doing the box or aquarium thing but I was afraid he would hurt himself since he kept trying to fly out of it. Anyway, I lowered his perches and bowls, padded his cage, turned on some light classical music, kept the heat up, and had my aunt (who has bird experience) check on him and give him more food twice.

When I left he was still limping and it did not look that much better. Well I just arrived home and I guess he rested all day because now his leg seems fine. He doesn't limp anymore, and he doesn't hold it up all the time while standing either. It does seem a tiny bit more swollen than the other one, but not red and nothing horrible. Like I said, he walks completely normal on it now. He is also eating normally and is happy to see us :-)

So I guess, long story short, it may have just been a sprain or some other minor injury? I'm keeping his perches low and cage padded maybe another day or so to make sure.

First off, I never said not to go to the vet. I said there is damn little they can do. That is still damn more than not doing anything. But mostly they can just diagnose, monitor, prescribe pain relief/antibiotic, and tube feed. But the healing usually has to come from within and they can't help with that. After thousands of dollars spent at the vet I am pretty convinced that they know and can do very little for birds compared to humans or even dogs. I'm not saying it isn't worth a shot or valuable. I'm not saying people should self diagnose. I'm just saying not to expect miracles from them.

Also I was just providing reassurance based on dealing with the same situation that despite $1000+ at the vet, the thing healed itself. If the vet did anything it was provide reassurance to me, pain relief to the bird, and force feeding when necessary. But of the thousand dollars spent, not a penny of it made the break heal any faster.

I'm glad to hear he's doing alright. That was my guess. I'd still have him looked at by the vet to make sure it's ok now. Monitor food, droppings, and weight and don't push him all at once. But once vet says he's ok, get those legs working to make up for any atrophy. Take care.

Well as I said , I know that and most other people do too but some people won't bother looking into your wording and just take it as how it reads thats all. You don't make it clear to someone who is inexperienced, very young, doesn't have a good grasp on english or otherwise not as developed as your average reader on here that your just stating what your experience was and that it is a good idea to see the vet anyway. Again as I said before I absolutely mean no disrespect to you and am sorry you appear to have taken it that was.
