So I got to bring Benny home last night minus $863.00. We have a change in diet from pellets to budgie seed for four weeks plus clamoxyl and omega 3 drops twice a day. I have to say all these years of Harrison, veggies and fresh fruit I thought I was doing the right thing. Only too find out his diet is too high in protien. He's due back in two weeks for blood work to check that everything is back on track. But at pressent he's back to normal :D

So glad to hear that he is doing better and you have him home.

I don't understand the situation but at least you do. I hope for the best for both of you.

good luck birdcrazy, i'm so glad your bird is getting better. my vet said my senegal has kidney problems and she ( the parrot not the vet) poops a lot of fluid and drinks a lot of water . no diabetes but kidney trouble. i asked if my baby is in pain and she said no. so we cope. she is still a sweet bird and as long as she lives she will be loved. :gray: :amazon:

I rang the vet worried about the fact benny wasn't drinking as much but that's a really good thing in my case which was a massive relief. I'm just glad he's back to normal causing trouble were ever he decides to land.

I'm not 100% sure how the vet identified that it was protien related but he did have a lot of different tests done. Im pretty sure it would have come up in the blood test tho. I do get what the vet is saying. I'm a trainee vet nurse and I see kidney failure in older cats all the time which is normaly due to their owners feeding a diet way to high in protien which overloads their kidneys. Budgies, cockatiels and cats are all desert animals and as crazy as its sounds suffer from the same issue.
