Injured bird??

Postby xxlazaro » Thu Jun 07, 2012 7:04 pm

Hello I have two cockatiels but the youngest one seems to be hurt because they were both outside of their cage and the older one can fly and so she decided to fly but the young one is clipped and he decided he wanted to fly and jumped off I went and picked him up and noticed he was standing on one leg (unusual for him ) and was fluffed up now he doesn't want to move. He can stand on the leg and he preens but when he is on the leg he barely does use it. Should I be concerned?

Any help is appreciated :greycockatiel: :greycockatiel:

Yes you should be worried sounds like a possible fractured leg you need to go to your local vet ASAP pain can lead to a bird dying from stress. Most animals are not vocal about pain but suffer all the same as we do.

Sounds to me that he pulled a muscle. He can stand on the leg but does not want to use it.

Animals hide their pain because preditors pick off the weak or injured. If he is not doing better in 24 hours I would take him to the vet to get my own peace of mind.

Thank You so much I just checked up on him ( hes asleep ) and he is still standing with his feet clenched like a fist which is very unusual. :(

I am going to do everything possible to get him back on his feet.

Again Thanks :greycockatiel: :)

Hello again he seems to be doing better he is standing with both feet and walking around the cage /eating. I can still see that he is sometimes avoiding too much weight on the foot.

Thank You for the help I hope he continues to do better :greycockatiel:
