Silicone Bakeware?

Hey

So, I know Teflon is toxic to birds, but what about Silicone bakeware? It's just as non-stick and bends a lot so that you can pop things out easily, but I want to know if it produces any fumes. I don't have a bird yet, so I haven't used it around any birds, but I just want to know if it's safe for them. I was just wondering because I was thinking about making Birdie Bread if I get a bird, and was just thinking about how I would bake it. We have Silicone loaf tins and cupcake moulds, but obviously I'm not going to go anywhere near something that could harm an animal.

So, yeah, in conclusion- Is Silicone bakeware safe? Does it produce fumes? Do you use Silicone?

I have used it but that doesn't mean I'm right to do so but I've never seen anything to suggest it's toxic.
That said any cooking I do we always have the kitchen door shut and open all the windows wide. I also set two timers so I dont accidently forget anything cooking. My kitchen is right next to the living room where my birds are kept. I've never fed anything to my birds that have been cooked with silicone though and I don't think I would do so unless I find out it's confirmed as safe.

Okay, thanks I've never seen anything to suggest it's unsafe either, but it's relatively new (At least in the UK) so maybe no-ones done any research into it. It's just plastic, though, isn't it? So I was guessing it should be safe. At least, safer than Teflon!

Should think so, if you choose to do so just make sure you dont accidently overheat/burn it and do whatever you can to keep any cooking fumes away from the birds. I always think I'm over cautious compared with most other people but I'd rather that and know I had done my best should anything happen.

I just bought some silicone bake ware so hopefully it's safe. Sounds like it is because it doesn't have the harmful chemicals

I wanted to tell you about my poor Sisters experience. She put a silicone oven protector in bottom of her oven before cooking Thanksgiving Turkey. That night her "Conure" acted like she was having a heart attack. And she died. This Sister and my other 2 all feel it was the silicone. Her bird was not very old. And she had been acting really good, early that morning. Since her experience, I'm even deathly afraid of the silicone gloves, etc.

Did the manufacturer specify that it was ptfe and pfoa free silicone bake ware? Because those are the toxic chemicals

I bake a lot, and GLASS bakeware is where it's at if you have birds.
