Okay this is getting out of hand!

I have trained, googled, and have worked so much with Dimas but he will /not/ stop nipping, screeching, and biting me and my other birds. Today Pluto and Lemon were out playing with string and having alot of fun. So I went over to cuddle Pluto (I got him tamed woot!) when Dimas just flipped out! He flutterd over a tried to bite Pluto! I grabbed him and held him close to me and told Dimas "No. Thats bad." Also I never ever had seen him do this before. Hes been getting out of hand and I dont know what to do. I dont want to give him away. I love him just as much as I do my other birds but Im just stuck now. Someone please help.

Well, I am sorry that you have to go through this. But what you can do is look at Dimas diet. Is he/she on organic food? My parrotlet is now on organic pellet food and tht help a slight bit. So, I googled a lot more about parrotlet behavior and learn that parrotets are normally cage aggressive(slightly). So I worked on getting him used to my hand in his cage. Maybe you could get Dimas on organic foods and get him used to you being with your other birds. Also, he could feel jelous. I would do even more research ( and i understand you have done so much). Another option is to look at how much time you spend with each bird. Or, go to an avian vet, because they will always have good advise for you. I hope this problem is resolved soon and remember that Dimas will always love you and never to give up on him/her.

I m sorry you are going thought this trouble with your little guy. I have 3 GCC s;Aura, Nemo and Kiwi, siblings with VERY different personalities ( born this February) they are somewhat tame but I just started training them. They have just learnt to step up, but Nemo and Kiwi will only do this if they can see their food reward
Kiwi is very cage aggressive. Whenever I come near the cage, he rushes to charge my hand and bite, outside of the cage he is good (most of the time .)
Aura gets upset at him when he acts like this and nips at him to make him stop, sometimes this causes them to quarrel.
I have made myself a few training "fingers'" to handle kiwi when he s getting nippy ( wrapp a thin plastic bag around your finger, the use 4 or 5 band aids to bandage the finger - cut excess plastic, now you have a finger you can wear or remove when you need protection.( none of them will come near me if I wear gloves)
I use a perch to take the 3 of them away from cage to training area( I wait till they are outside of the cage) then I wear the" fingers" till kiwi settles so that I can train them without injury.
I find that once he bites a few times and gets no reaction, he calm down and just moves away if something displeases him
Also , I discovered that if he is aggressive around the cage and I lean over so he can pick at my hair, this seams to calm him down and then he let's me do what I need to do.
I don t know if any of this advice helps you but keep us posted if you come up with a method, I m sure I can use the help as well

Yes, Im trying to get Dimas to eat pellets right now. (Rainbow Katee, fruity goodness lol. Cockatiels always will go for it.) But he seems to not be interested in it and only eats the seeds mixed in. Im just going to leave the pellets in there and mabye if he get hungry enough he'll try them. Im not letting him starve though, I usually gve him bits of apple or mangos if I can get some from WalMart. I looked at BirdTricks.com and today Im working with him to stop screaming. Its making my mom get mad. And when she wants something gone I dont have a chance. lD So wish me luck. I usually came back when he screamed because I felt bad. But then I learned that it was bad. I hope this works.

:O I just watched a video and I think I figured it out. Dimas wants attention because he dosent have anything better to do than get attention from me. Im getting serveral toys if my mom has the money (were so broke XD) to get them.

Dimas is an only. The tiels can play with each other when they are not with you. I suggest give Dimas extra attention. Let him feel like he ismore important to you and he won't be trying to take dominance.

My tiels rarely get out but I pushed two big cages together and connected them by the doors. They have plenty of room to play and keep themselves busy.

Rambo stays busy turning big pieces of cardboard into little ones. He does not really play with toys.

Myrtle on the other hand is like a hyperactive 2 year old kid. Her favorite things are her tree branches and clear plastic bottles with Nerds in them. I only put a few in each one because she does get them out. I save all the little bottles big enough to be foot toys, wash them and rinse them out real good and let them dry. Those bottles really keep her busy. They both like bells.

A lot of male Sun Conures have a jealous streak to them. I found this out with Skittles. The closer I get to someone else or another animal, the more likely he is to bite the heck out of them or in most cases ME. It's seriously bad when there are new people around. I've found that if they ignore him, he ignores them. If they lock eyes with him, wave, come nearby or stick their finger out there is no way to stop the crazy trance he gets into that I've yet to find. He does the bird equivalent of "Let me at 'em!" and when I present him with his favorite treat (peanut butter) he totally ignores it and still continues leaning off the perch.

Now as for other birds, Skittles is my only one so I can't give any experience on that. I've quite literally JUST started training him on the target command and trying to get him more hand tame. I'd like to try and take him out to the park and stuff on a nice day as well to get some socialization in. I'll report in on how that goes though.

He never used to be like this. As a baby, he was the sweetest thing and would love everyone. I believe it's sort of a mix of jealousy and protectiveness brought on by hormones. Either way, I hope this situation improves and would love to hear back on what you try that does and doesn't work!

good advice Liz. i want to say also that bird toys are all around us, they don't have to put mom in the poor house. my birds play with toilet paper rolls, clothes pins ( all wood kind), popsicle sticks, plastic bottles and covers, a walnut is a great bird toy too . baby toys that noone wants anymore , a wiffle ball with rope tied in many knots,....the list of free or really inexpensive things is enormous. good luck.
