Poor Harlow.

I'm glad your managing to get some food in her, that will help.
I really wish there were more avian vets, its horrible putting a sick bird through all that travelling.
Hopefully tomorrow things will look brighter so you can take her to get more help.

Take care of yourself too, Harlow needs you to keep yourself strong.

Im just getting back from the new vet right now. This is her second visit [this vets MUCH better].The first visit they ruled out a few things .[ Like no internal bleeding or injury.] The problem is her low red blood cell count .It was 11 when the first vet tested her .This guy said lets check it again cause she shouldnt be standing .He got some blood out of her toenail[not a big deal]I was happy. It had gone up to 18 [which is great] he also gave her fluids with electolytes to increase her red blood cell count and wanted to see her in 5 days which was tonight[also changed her medicine. In those 5 days she seemed to be stronger.Tonight they tested her blood again and its gone up to 20 [which is positive :D ] He would like to see it get to 35 .As this increases she should gain weight. You should see me .Im holding my breath that this is working :D It was neat one of their employees owns 15 Macaws 7 of tham were Catalinas.I loved being able to find out what the different temperments are like. She had Green wings ,blue and golds, scarlets and Catalinas. She said the catalinas had different personalities but were the most gentle[Interesting] Dave had to drag me out of there.I never get to meet people with birds :D

Brilliant, I'm so glad she's improving. Fingers crossed she keeps making good progress. Has your new vet got any ideas on what it could be yet now they have ruled some stuff out?

Oki you've lost me with the blue wings?? I've never had a bird called Binky but the name is one I got from a book. I don't know of you have ever read Terry Pratchett books but Binky is the horse death rides....... No relevence whatsoever, I just liked the name :D

Ollie is much more lively but he seems to have removed more feathers from his wing pits :( Actually I'm going to ring the vets, I havent heard anything since our last appointment, he wasn't in last time I tried ringing.....

Dear Terri,

I'm really sorry to learn of Harlow's illness. Poor baby. How is she doing now? Is she showing more improvement? I hope she gets better soon.

I hope this is okay for me to mention, but do you perhaps have a cast iron skillet? Cooking some eggs (or food in general) in an iron skillet can help with hemoglobin (red cell) counts...

Please keep us updated with Harlow. We're here for you. *hugs*
