please help

Hello everyone,

I an very new to this forum..and i am very much worried about my baby parakeet's chipped beak.i got this baby Indian ring neck parakeet just 1 month back.and she was about 3 weeks by that time.At that time she was having a very healthy,beautiful beak...but gradually she started rubbing her beak against the cage and perch..and i don't know for what reason now her beak is horribly damaged with several cracks and its about to break at the tip portion .what to do?please suggest. I am posting the photos when she was newly arrived and recent one.

Please help me as i don't have any avian vet in my area.

Why are you posting this message again?

I've already responded further down the board but I'll say it again. You need to get your bird to an avian vet ASAP. This kind of damage will not go away by itself and is only going to get worse and end up being very very painful for your bird.

You may well need to travel a long way but you need to do it.

Thank you very much for your reply.Yesterday i visited a vet ,who is obviously not an avian specialist.After examining it he suggested to use a paste of aloe Vera juice,turmeric and some capsule(not remembered the name),thrice a day over the beak.but frankly i am not satisfied with the medication..so need more help as seriously i don't have any avian vet in my area even far away...

Where are you? Some avian vets or at least vets with a special interest in treating birds are hard to track down. Maybe someone on here will know someone.

Failing that find a vet thats willing to seek advice from an avian vet then do the treatment themself. There are ways to fix or at least protect broken beaks including wiring which doesn't look like it will be helpful in your case as it isn't a straight break. I've seen a case where they glued a layer over the beak (it wasn't glue btw, i just cant remember what they used) to give it a bit of support whilst it was growing out.

Definitely find an avian vet, this could be something very bad and it is your duty to take your bird to an avian vet.

Thank you very much to both of you for your concern.I am from India. and in my place hardly i am getting any good vet..so you can imagine how impossible it is to find an avian vet or anyone who can guide me correctly.. Today i have started to give her calcium for some better result.what much i can do in this case where no one is present to help me physically.so i am taking the help of this forum with a great hope.

That beak looks really damaged, almost like a burned wound! Beak rubbing against perches is normal and shouldnt cause this, I would put it down to contact with something bad or a faulty diet.

What is her diet, what is her living conditions etc? We need more information, and you really really should look up an avian vet, there is bound to be one in india.

As per her diet she is being given pallets,fruits like (apple,mango and guava),corn,cooked rice,and raw veggies like(bell pepper,pumpkin,ladies finger,beans etc).and from today itself i have started giving calcium.

Ok I've had a look for you. I do not know if any of these are any good, what their qualifications are etc, how far from you there are or even if they are even in india but this is what I have pulled off from the web from a very quick search. Some of the posts may be old, have new phone numbers etc but I'm sure you can pull up relevent information by making more specific searchs.

Really hope this helps as your parrot needs help urgently before it gets worse.
